About the position . . . .
Our community is Bonners Ferry, Idaho, located in the extreme northern panhandle
of Idaho. Our area is heavily forested, with many mountains, streams, and lakes.
On the accompanying "About the Location" page on this website, I have placed
photographs and a description of the area.
This would be considered a "rural area" for medical practice, but I would say we
have a medically progressive area that does not fit the usual picture one might
have of rural medicine. Our hospital is great--our administrator is very
physician-oriented and proactive. Several of our nurses have worked in ICUs or
other areas of large, metropolitan hospitals, and now live and work here, bringing
excellent experience with them. We have state-of-the-art ultrasound, a brand new
multi-row CT scanner, and we have a high quality mobile MRI scanner here on a
weekly basis.
Several specialist consultants regularly travel here and spend the day with us,
seeing patients at our hospital on an outpatient consultation basis. These include
two cardiologists, a general surgeon, two orthopedic surgeons, and a group of
obstetrician/gynecologists. We will soon have a nephrologist visit periodically, also.
We are fortunate to have these specialists help out here. They are always
available for consultations or for informal questions and discussions.
Our hospital is closely networked with Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene,
Idaho, 70 miles south, and the specialists and resources of that facility are
available.
As one can see, we have an abundance of medical resources, considering our
location in a relatively rural area.
Here is a brief idea of the practice environment: I presently work full time here in a
solo practice. I have been thinking that I would like to split this practice in some
way, for example a partner and I might each work three days per week, or maybe
alternate a week of four days one week, with only two days the next. All that could
be worked out, but the general idea is that splitting the time like this would give
each of us the opportunity to practice, yet still have plenty of time available for
family time, free time, or for other pursuits.
If you have an interest in such a practice with a lot of time for family or other
pursuits, this might be an opportunity you'd consider.
Main Street Medical is one of four clinics in our community, all are primary care. As
for me, I am a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine, and
completed residency at the University of Utah.
Of course, there's a lot more one might wish to know about the community, the
practice, or other aspects of the situation here. If you would like to know more, you
are welcome to contact me. Please see the "Contact Me" page on this website.
